Cover Reveal- Mortal Gods by Kendare Blake+Giveaway (INT)

Kendare Blake’s books are some of my favorites, her Anna series was gruesome, horrific yet heartfelt. The first of her newest series, Antigoddess continued with Kendare’s beautiful descriptions and incredible story telling. I am beyond thrilled for the next book, Mortal Gods. The cover is a departure from the first book’s cover. I really loved the cover of Antigoddess but I do like this one since it has a person in it…Lego Cover Art possibilities. What do you think?

What better way to introduce a new cover than to hear from the author herself. Here’s Kendare with some of her thoughts about the Mortal Gods cover as well as an exclusive on the title of book 3:

So, as some may already know, MORTAL GODS was originally titled ARISTEIA. An aristeia is a moment in epic poetry where the hero is untouchable. Where they kill more than ever before, and with more flair and brutality. Where they are almost a god. The aristeia of the title would have referred to Cassandra, who is going through many ch-ch-changes as she attempts to recover from her loss at the end of Antigoddess and come to terms with being a weapon. The god killer. So it’s fitting that Cassandra is featured on the cover of Mortal Gods. Sure, she’s not blond, but the blond sure does look great with those golds and browns, so I’m not complaining!

Athena on the first cover and Cassandra on the second. But who does that leave for the third? Which, sneak preview here, My Friends are Fiction readers, may be titled UNGODLY.

I love the cover, is a big change from the first one. Easier to do a lego cover with a person on it 🙂

I just bought both Anna books for an event that Kendare was at recently, but had to pass on Antigoddess… I’m regretting that now!! I love this second cover. Unfortunate that the girl’s hair isn’t actually blonde in the books (that’s a pet peeve of mine), but it’s still very eye-catching. I love it!

I also kind of adore the original title, ARISTEIA. O_O But, probably a lot of people don’t know what that means and how epic it is, and Antigoddess/Mortal Gods/Ungodly(?) do make for awesome series titles.

…I really need to read these books now, don’t I? Yeah. Yeah, I do.

Isn’t Kendare the very best? I adore her…she is so clever. I think you’d enjoy Antigoddess so if you don’t win it here you should get it at some point. I LOVE the original title but I agree that a lot of people would be confused by it and the 3 titles really do go together.

  3. Bridget Howard says

So I think the cover is pretty but I don’t think it really matches the first one in the series very well. I actually liked the first books cover way more, but I am still excited to read this!!!

I agree 100% I loved the original cover, and honestly preferred that look overall but these are pretty and as long as the spines match I’ll be ok. I’m so excited to read it!

Initial reaction: Another cover redesign??? Nooooo!!
But I kinda like the new look better, so.. 😉 I haven’t read Antigoddess so I don’t know about her hair color..but it does look good in that color and braid!

  5. Carla Bosch says

The cover is gorgeous! Definitely something I would pick up in a book shop 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway, can’t wait to read the book!

I love the cover, it’s very eye catching. Love finding great new authors and series. The book sounds fantastic, definitely added to my TBR.

Kendare Blake is one of my favorite authors and I LOVED Antigoddess. My version was the old one, though, so now they’re not going to match. .__. It looks lovely, though. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Oh, you do have a new link! Thanks for letting me know…I’ll be checking it out!

Yep, I have the old cover in HC so won’t match but hopefully the spines will go together. I doubt they’ll sale the HC with the new cover

  8. says

I definitely liked the cover of Antigoddess more, but I’ve really been looking forward to this book, so I’ll take it no matter the packaging. 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway!

  9. Wajiha says

Gorgeous cover! I really love her fishtail braid and the paerback of Antigoddess has a great cover as well 🙂
    Thanks for the giveaway!

I didn’t realise the title had been changed, but I much prefer this one! The cover is pretty cool too, even if it is quite different to the first book’s cover. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next in the story. Thanks for sharing, Kristen! 🙂

I think I prefer this title too. I love the original but it would probably be a bit confusing. Plus, all these titles go so well together. I can’t wait to see where Kendare takes the story.

    • says

It really is a departure from the original hardcover. Did you see the paperback cover of Antigoddess? It has this same look. I should have included it in my post.

  11. says

To be honest, I actually like the previous cover a lot better! But that’s more so because I don’t really like people on covers in general haha (even though they do offer up lego opportunities :P)
I kinda prefer the title Aristeia as well. It sounds so much cooler than Mortal Gods- but I guess it’s pretty hard to spell and things like that lol.

I honestly wasn’t all that happy when I saw the redo for the PB but the more I look at these the more I like them. I am a tad sad that my books won’t match but I do love the Lego possibilities.

  12. says

Wait I already have antigoddess so disregard my entries! lol

Alright so I’ll be glad to see your lego cover if you decide to do it but have to say I’m not enthused by the figure on this cover. I love the rest of it but the person…ehhh not to much. Seriously looking forward to reading it tho!!

It really is eye-catching. I thought the original cover of Antigoddess was too but I love them both and excited to have them all in my collection.

Loved the original cover of Antigoddess, but have to admit that this one fits better with the whole story. Love the colors. 🙂
    Thanks for a giveaway! 🙂
