Discussion- TV Adaptations and Series You’d Love to See

Outlander GoT

I’ve recently watched the first episodes of Outlander and found myself really impressed with how well the show translated to television. I think the casting was spot on and I might prefer viewing the story over reading it. Granted, I only read the first two books and have seen about half the first book so that might change. This got  me thinking of the latest book to TV adaptations- Outlander, Game of Thrones and The Vampire Diaries. Each show brought something unique to the book and each varies to how closely the story and characters have followed the original.

So far, I tend to prefer TV shows that have stuck closely to the original material but I have to admit, knowing Game of Thrones this next season is going away a bit from Martin’s books does excite me. What will they do? And how will it work?

Legend-Of-The-Seeker1

Did you ever see Legend of The Seeker based on Terry Goodkind’s Sword of Truth series? The show was so much fun but veered FAR from the show. Ultimately, it didn’t last all that long.

Long story short…this got me thinking of the book series that I would love to see on television.

Penryn and the End of Days series by Susan Ee

I just read the final book, End of Days, and I think these three books would translate beautifully to screen. The rights for a film have been sold and I think that if done correctly it could work that way too. I prefer tv series though because you get so much more time with the characters. Of course this one would be need to air on HBO, Starz or the like. I won’t go into casting because I’m awful at it. I do worry that there is no possible actor that could portray Raffe correctly (for me).

Every Series by Ellie Marney

I absolutely love these books (though I’ve not read Every Move yet) and think that they would make for an excellent TV show. The chemistry and relationship between the two leads would be fabulous on screen as well as the mystery. I could see them creating all types of weekly mysteries for these two to solve. This needs to happen, please?

Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman

VR
Okay, this one is a standalone (hoping for a companion novel!) but the western setting would be sooo good for television. I think we can all agree that TV is lacking in westerns as of late. Not sure they’d have enough material to make it a long running series so this might work better as a film but I’d love to tune in weekly to Kate’s story of revenge.

Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

 ToG CoM HoF QoS

Really, what list would be complete without this series? There is so much material to pull from as well as drama, action, magic, just EVERY element screams ‘make me a TV show’  Could you imagine seeing Celaena’s character growth on TV? It would be so amazing as well as the setting…just everything. Yep, I need this. And all the ships? On TV. My heart aches thinking about it.

I’ll stop here though anything Laini Taylor and Leigh Bardugo would be wonderful. I could really go on and on. There are so many amazing books that I would love to watch as well as read.

What series would you love to see on TV?

HOLY I AM WITH YOU. We need the Every series on tv. That would be so good. Can you imagine. I can see it coming together already!

AND ANGELFALL! I could do with seeing Raffe come to life, jus saying 😉

Whaaat?! Penryn and the End of Days will be a movie?! That’s awesome.
I’m excited about Vicious by V.E. Schwab which has sold movie rights as well – that will be weird and really cool all at once.
But it’s scary, too, because there’s no way they could cast actors that would fulfill our mental images of these characters – someone is bound to be disappointed. But I have to say they did an admirable job with Outlander 🙂

Oh my god, I remember watching The Legend of the Seeker and thinking, what in the world this is so different from the books. Charlene Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series does the same thing as well. So I don’t really enjoy seeing tv adaptions because they never stick to the story, it seems,

Awesome post Kristen 😀 Yay for loving Outlander so far. <3 I haven't read the books, which I never will, hah, but want to watch the show after all the episodes are out 🙂 Maybe.. I cannot wait for more of Game of Thrones 😀 Though I still have't read the books. Ack. But someday 🙂 I really love The 100. <3 WHICH YOU MUST WATCH. I haven't read the books, but know they are veeery different. But yeah. That show is perfection 🙂 But oh. Books I want as a tv-show.. well. I'm going with none. Because most are done badly as movies :p but waaait. I want His Dark Materials. I want that so badly. Sigh. Perfect books 🙂 Anyway. Thank you for sharing sweetie. <3

I would love to see Gallagher Girls made into a tv series. Each book covers one school semester and there is so much that can be done with that and what happens beyond graduation.
I’ve seen bits of Legend of the Seeker and Game of Thrones but I’ve never read the books. I think with series’ like that I would prefer watching it rather than reading it so I don’t mind that they change some things. It just means I’m less likely to get spoilers.lol

Throne of Glass should get a TV show a la Game of Thrones!! I’d loooooove to watch it!!!
And yeah, Outlander is probably my favourite adaption of all the ones I’ve watched so far, because GoT did change some things I was quite keen on, but I still like it loads!

On show that was a BIG disappointed on how much they deviated from the books was True Blood! UGH!

I LOVED The Legend of the Seeker show and was SOOO disappointed it got cancelled. I never read the books but I know they changed it quite a lot. But I liked it…*cries*

I definitely would love to see Throne of Glass made into a tv show. I think it may work better on tv than on film but either would be fantastic!

I’m also holding out for an Under the Never Sky movie. 🙂

I can totally see Throne of Glass and Penryn and the End of Days series as a TV series. Those and Mistborn should totally be a series. Also, A Series of Unfortunate would make a fabulous tv series (and it is gonna be one! YEEEEEEE!).

I’m with you for the Throne of Glass and the End of Days HAHA I read End of Days this year and it was pretty dark and exciting. Sarah mass is my fave author ever! I would also love to have A Court of Thorns and Roses become an adaption. I never heard of Outlander tho, what is it?

I’m not a big TV watcher in general (I prefer movies since they’re shorter!), but a Throne of Glass TV serious would be FREAKING EPIC. It’s going to have the most kick-ass cast and effects ever. 😉 I haven’t read the Every Breath series yet, but I’ve heard amazing things about it and I’d definitely give it a shot if they adapted it. I also got Vengeance Road for review, and now I’m more stoked to read it. 😀

None of these are books I have read myself! I have read A Game of Thrones but I want to read the whole series before I start watching it, and that could take some time xD One book I NEED to be a telly series would be Gone by Michael Grant. I mean, PLEASE!

I’ve only read the first book in the Outlander series but I loved it and have been wanting to watch the tv show ever since 🙂 I watched Legend the Seeker absolutely ages ago and thought it was great but I had no idea that it was based on books… oops. As for the Throne of Glass series it would make an awesome tv show but I’d be too scared of them messing it up to watch it, I think. Great post!
