You might have seen on Twitter or IG that I received a few copies of Cat Winters’ latest book, The Uninvited. Today I’ll be sharing one copy with you in a giveaway. I haven’t read this one yet but I’ve loved both of Winters’ other two books, In the Shadows of Blackbirds and The Cure for Dreaming. I ran across her first book right when I started blogging and fell in love. I also grew to respect and adore Cat because she is incredibly talented as well as so nice. She agreed to do an interview about Blackbirds way back in those first months of blogging and it has continued to be one of my favorite interviews I’ve conducted.
When it was announced that she was writing an adult novel I was beyond thrilled and it was quickly added to my most anticipated list. If you’ve not read any of her work I hope that you will especially if you enjoy historical fiction with a touch of paranormal (haunted historical fiction in my world).
About the Book
Twenty-five year old Ivy Rowan rises from her bed after being struck by the flu, only to discover the world has been torn apart in just a few short days.
But Ivy’s life-long gift—or curse—remains. For she sees the uninvited ones—ghosts of loved ones who appear to her, unasked, unwelcomed, for they always herald impending death. On that October evening in 1918 she sees the spirit of her grandmother, rocking in her mother’s chair. An hour later, she learns her younger brother and father have killed a young German out of retaliation for the death of Ivy’s older brother Billy in the Great War.
Horrified, she leaves home, to discover the flu has caused utter panic and the rules governing society have broken down. Ivy is drawn into this new world of jazz, passion, and freedom, where people live for the day, because they could be stricken by nightfall. But as her ‘uninvited guests’ begin to appear to her more often, she knows her life will be torn apart once more, but Ivy has no inkling of the other-worldly revelations about to unfold.

I’ll normally say I don’t believe in ghosts…until I hear floorboards creaking in the middle of the night and nobody is walking around. D:
You’ve had that happen? EEKS! I’ve never had a ghost encounter myself but my hubby swears his house growing up was haunted.
Yes I’ve seen one and I will never ever doubt people ghosts stories again. I’m just glad mine was someone I knew. I used to baulk at people who said this but not anymore. Thank you so so so very much for this giveaway!! I’m so excited!!
❤️Britt
Oh wow! I’d love to hear about the ghost you saw sometime Britt! My husband has seen one so I do believe people see stuff but I’ve not (and I’m pretty happy about that!)
I don’t really believe in ghosts. Most times. But there are times, when I see something and I turn around, but it’s gone by then. Maybe just a trick of the light. Or not. 😉
oooh, creepy! I know that feeling and I’m always wondering what was that? Trick of light? Shadow? What?
nope but I’m always open to a good ghost story
Me too!
I do, I’ve never had any experiences nor do I think most people do have them. They’re not the Ghost Hunter TV kinds of experience, but something intimate and insular. I’m not sure if ghosts are ghosts, but more like spirits that linger and come and go.
I wonder about that too. I’ve seen many explanations for what people see but having never experienced it myself I really have no clue.
Thanks so much for the international giveaway! Ever since The Cure for Dreaming I have been intrigued by this author and have wanted to try more of her books 🙂

I loved In the Shadow of Blackbirds! She is such a talented author. I hope you love more of her work.
Ghosts are scary to think about! I don’t necessarily believe in them myself, but I don’t disregard those who say they’ve experienced one.
Same here Brittani. They freak me out too…them and aliens.
Ah, the precious. <3 I wish to enter, lol. But I shall not 😀 Since I do own this precious thing. <3 But oh, IT IS SO GORGEOUS. And so amazing. You must share when you read it 🙂 I do think you'll love it. I hope. I loved it so much. Anyway. Just wanted to say that you are awesome for hosting this giveaway. <3
I had to do it INT since it is the precious 🙂 I’ve still not read it! I really need to but I’m sort of nervous because it’s Cat and I’m afraid it’ll be sad.
I’m not actually sure if I believe in ghosts. Probably. I don’t think that they’re the over-dramatic beings portrayed on television but…their existence or partial-existence, I guess, could be possible.
Wonderful response! I completely agree.
I SWEAR there’s at least one ghost living in my house and I just see it out of the corner of my eye. Also, when–if–one of my cats die, she will most definitely still exist as a ghost haunting the hell out of us, always watching, or adding weight to our shoulders. So yes, I guess ghosts are real, but may they please leave me alone because they’re scary.
That freaks me out that you have one in your house! AGH. I would be so creeped out. Have you looked into the history of your home? Is it an older home? I agree–I’d like to be left alone please!
I love your blog, and you do some wonderful giveaways x
Thank you so much Daniel!
Until I am proven otherwise, I do not believe in ghosts. Hopefully soon though..
I’ve read your comment over and over because that “hopefully soon though…” creeps me! haha.
Yes, I totally believe in ghosts! Although I haven’t seen one, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t out there. And I’m dying to read this book, love Cat Winters! Thanks for the awesome giveaway.
I don’t think I’d ever like to see a ghost to be honest O.O I love Cat too and you are so welcome. I’ll be giving another copy away soon too!
No, but I believe in Cat Winters! 🙂
AWESOME RESPONSE.
I believe in ghosts but I don’t think that they are anything to be afraid of. They’re just spirits here for a visit! 🙂
I’ve not encountered one but I think it would scare me. Maybe if it was a loved one it wouldn’t?
I don’t believe in ghosts, unless there is empirical evidence that they do exist. (; Thanks for the giveaway!
You are so welcome! I love this author oh so much.
I don’t really believe in them, but also I don’t want to have that non-faith thing tasted if you know what I mean…
And at least I’m never really worried about ghosts at work, because usually the dead aren’t something to worry about, we knew them in life and I don’t they’d want to hurt us after… ya know?
I totally know what you mean! I never want to encounter one either. The idea freaks me out. That and aliens.
No, I don’t believe in ghosts (as in the souls of the dead roaming earth). I do believe in demons, however.
I just got a chill
Absolutely! I’m actually pretty sure there’s a ghost living in my house!
Thanks for the giveaway 🙂
eeeps! Do they scare you?
Absolutely! Our dog regularly sees them I’m sure. As my Mom passed away three years ago, I’m sure it’s her that is visiting. Her old bedroom door randomly locks us out and the dog will stare at the empty recliner chair that was Mom’s. It’s the only piece of furniture that the dog will sit in front of and stare as if someone is sitting there.
Wow, what a powerful comment! I’m so sorry for the loss of your mom but the idea that she does visit is probably comforting. I just lost my grandfather and I dream of him but I’ve not seen him. I do feel like I’ve gotten a few nods though from him especially at his funeral. Thank you for sharing your experience!
I don’t believe in ghosts now, but I’m open to the possibility if someone gives me good evidence! 😉
Yes, I am too. I really can’t discount something if I’ve not experienced it. I feel like there is so much more to our world than we know.
I…think I do believe they exist.
Many people seem to have experienced them right?
Absolutely I believe in ghosts!
Ghosts? I should say yes and no, just because… Yo no lo crew en brujas… preo que las hay… las hay 😉
No, I don’t believe in ghosts anymore but I love ghosts stories and I would like to see a ghost. 🙂 Thanks for the chance!
I can’t say that I 100% believe in ghosts. But there have been a few occasions where ghostly things happened to me and my siblings. I did also live in a haunted house growing up not realizing it was haunted. My mom told us years after we moved out. 🙂
Yeah, I believe in ghosts. I saw one 2 times. When I was 10 and when I was 19. Both times I was so scared and wasn’t able to sleep for a few days and after slept for ~ a month with lights on. I woke up in the middle of the night and saw hanged woman in a 19th century dress. Not her face, she was hanged half-face. Well.. she disappeared when I blinked. First time I saw her in summer camp. I was scared but forget about it some time after. But then, when I was 19 that ghost woman was in my room. And I immediately remembered her. And was so scared because THE HELL IS THIS THING IN MY HOUSE?! DID IT FOLLOW ME?!
Now I am 24 and hope that I won’t see her again…
Thanks so much for the great giveaway! This sounds like such a great book. As far as ghosts, I just don’t know… I think it is a possibility, but I have never seen evidence of it for myself, so I can’t make a definite determination!
I have a hard time believing in ghosts, but ghost stories still scare the pants off me.
I believe it’s possible for ghosts to exist. Can we ever definitely prove it? Probably not.
Nope, I don’t believe in ghosts.
Thanks for hosting an INTL giveaway. You’re the besst 🙂
I do believe in ghosts! Mostly friendly ghosts though =)
Very much so. Specially after my Grandfather passed. I smell his aftershave at random times.
I don’t actually believe in ghost and my reason is because I am such a scaredy cat that if I tell myself that they don’t exist, I feel safe… But I enjoy so much hearing about ghost stories and haunted places…
Yes I do
