Highlighting Passenger-Alexandra Bracken’s Upcoming Time Travel Novel + Giveaway

Today I’m so excited to give one of my readers a chance to win the upcoming novel by Alexandra Bracken, Passenger. I’m reading it now and I’m really liking how she’s handled the details of time travel.

About the Book

PassengercoverIn one devastating night, violin prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has traveled not just miles, but years from home. And she’s inherited a legacy she knows nothing about from a family whose existence she’s never heard of. Until now.

Nicholas Carter is content with his life at sea, free from the Ironwoods–a powerful family in the Colonies–and the servitude he’s known at their hands. But with the arrival of an unusual passenger on his ship comes the insistent pull of the past that he can’t escape and the family that won’t let him go so easily. Now the Ironwoods are searching for a stolen object of untold value, one they believe only Etta, his passenger, can find. In order to protect her, Nick must ensure she brings it back to them–whether she wants to or not.

Together, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the traveler who will do anything to keep the object out of the Ironwoods’ grasp. But as they get closer to the truth of their search, and the deadly game the Ironwoods are playing, treacherous forces threaten to separate Etta not only from Nicholas but from her path home… forever.

This question is so hard because I love so many but I would have to agree with Susan and say Tudor and Elizabethan England. I am not sure I’d want to move around and interact with the people, maybe just observe. I’d be too afraid of how I’d be seen and treated in a world that didn’t see woman as anything other than baby makers,

Thanks for the giveaway! I’ve always wanted to travel back to WWII. I know that’s a little weird, considering how horrible everything was, but I think it would be interesting to see what kind of person I would be in a situation like that.

Can I just have a Tardis? That way I can go anywhere and anytime I feel like it with a decreased chance of getting stuck there. My problem is all the time periods I’d want to visit I’d die in, suffer greatly, starve to death, have a germ meltdown, or be treated like dirt because I’m a woman. Which makes this question extremely hard to answer.

*didn’t mean to hit post yet*

I like the Tudor/Elizabethan England answer too. But I also want to go to Medieval Scotland. Yup. Dead girl travelling. XD

  4. Danielle D. says

I’d love to travel back in time to see the library of Alexandria, or to meet Queen Elizabeth I (seeing Shakespeare wouldn’t be to bad either)

I think that it would be amazing to go back to the 50s and 60s to experience the first few waves of innovative music (Beach Boys/Chuck Berry/Motown) in the works, see the classic cars we love today right out of the dealership, and go to a movie theater that sells tickets for pennies (literally!).
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  6. Autumn says

If I could travel to any time period it would definitely be the 1960s. The era of peace. love. and amazing music. I was born in the wrong era…

  7. Sierra says

Thank you for the lovely giveaway. I still haven’t read the Darkest Minds series, but everyone just raves about them. I’m sure I’ll get to it someday!

I would choose the Elizabethan era of England. I studied Shakespeare more than any other author in college. I had a dear teacher in high school introduce me to Shakespeare and it’s what got me interested in English in the first place as a major. I would totally be Martha Jones from The Shakespeare Code in Series 3 of Doctor Who, like, “We have a time traveling space ship?? Let’s go visit ole Will!” 🙂

  8. Emily Crowell says

Definitely the colonial era of American history- what a time to be alive! I LOVE the clothes, the customs, and to get a first hand witness of the birth of my country… WOW!

  9. says

Aw, stunning post Kristen 😀 Thank you for sharing about this book. <3 And you are amazing for giving away a copy to someone 🙂 YAY. I cannot wait to read this book. I think it looks gorgeous. Just hope I will love it 🙂

  10. MichelleRae6 says

If I could go back in time, I’d want to see the American Founding Fathers as they took the colonies into the Revolutionary War

I’d like to go back to the 1950’s. I’d love to see the year my dad was born in. Sounds interesting. Thank you for the giveaway. I’m very excited to read this one.

I’d want to visit the Roaring 20s! After reading the Great Gatsby and learning so much about the time period, I think it would be wonderful to see it all in action. Ooh or maybe Victorian Era London! That would be amazing. Also I’d love to see the forming of the USA in the 1700s. So many great time periods I’d love to see 🙂

  13. Katie says

Someone once asked me if I could have any super power, what would it be? And my instantaneous response was time travel. But which one time I would travel to?! Dear me. Why do I have to pick one?

But if I have to…the Victorian Era. Just because.

  14. Georgeana says

I would travel to the 1920s or 1930s. I love the fashion of this time! Or I’d want to travel to Ancient Egypt. I’ve always been interested in this time period.

  15. Bianca says

It’s hard to pick only one. But I think I woul do a fleeting visit to the victorian period.
I’m so looking forward to Passenger.

  16. Camille H says

Oooh, that is such a hard question! But maybe Ancient Egypt since I’ve always wondered what life was like back than or the Elizabethan Era because it would be cool to see a Shakespeare play
