International Giveaway Inspired by Sad News

Β Stolen Songbird (The Malediction Trilogy, #1)The 57 Lives of Alex Wayfare (Alex Wayfare, #1)

I’m sure you’ve heard the sad news from Angry Robot today about their YA division Strange Chemistry being axed. This is horrible news because they always brought new and exciting titles to young adult. You can read the article here.

This is tragic news to us as readers but I can’t imagine how it must feel for all the authors that have a debut or continuation of their series now canceled. This is devastating news. I’ve decided to do the only thing I can do beyond reviewing these titles and getting the word out there (which I will and am doing)- I’ll be giving away a copy of any Strange Chemistry title that you choose. Of course, it has to still be stocked and for sale. I’m highlighting Stolen SongbirdΒ by Danielle JensenΒ and The 57 Lives of Alex WayfareΒ by M.G. Buehrlen because these two are and have been on my radar. I’ve read Stolen Songbird and adored it…so much so I’ve yet to form my notes into a good enough review to post.

Here’s the link to the Strange Chemistry book list.

I wanted to update this post with a link to The Bibliophibian who has linked the posts they have found about the Strange Chemistry news as well as another giveaway.

This is so sad! I really love the publisher, they always have such great titles and amazing covers.

I’ve read Stolen Songbird and really enjoyed it too!! I’d get The Wizard’s Promise by Cassandra Rose Clarke because I read her The Assassin’s Curse duology and really loved them so I’d like to read her new book!! I hope other publishing companies pick up the continuation of all these series >.<

  3. says

Oh no! That’s really sad. Some of their novels I really enjoyed. I wonder why they were axed!? I couldn’t seem to see it on the link, a picture of The Vanishing Season appeared instead of the article, in case you didn’t know!? I think I would really like to read Stolen Songbird, I missed my chance to review it! Thanks for the giveaway! πŸ™‚

I’m so sad about this news! Strange Chemistry has, in my experience, put out books unlike any others. I’ve not read a book from them that I didn’t really enjoy. I’ve read both Stolen Songbird (actually I just went and bought myself a copy of that today, too!) and The 57 Lives of Alex Wayfare, both of which I loved. I’ve read Laura Lam’s books and The Weight of Souls, too. All were excellent. πŸ™‚

I loved Stolen Songbird so the news really bummed me out. I hope the author finds another publisher ASAP. I also really enjoyed The 57 Lives of Alex Wayfare. I have kindle versions but I’m buying the books today as well.

  45. says

That’s terrible to hear. Several authors of theirs had books to be released this year! And they were the end in trilogies! It’s too bad that they couldn’t somehow manage to make that happen for those authors still. Hopefully they’re able to self-pub or get picked up by another publisher soon.

  46. says

Yay, thanks for this giveaway! (: I was so sad to hear this news too. ): I absolutely LOVE Laura Lam’s books. I don’t think I’ve read any other Strange Chemistry titles, but I’m hoping to win Eliza Crewe’s Cracked. But honestly, I want to check out like ALL OF THE STRANGE CHEM TITLES. 49. says

I’ve only read one Strange Chemistry book and it, well, I didn’t like it. But that’s irrelevant because they had SO MANY other books I wanted to try. Like the Assassin’s Curse books and Stolen Songbird. I’ll probably choose one of them if I win (and if not will probably end up buying because I want them before they go out of stock :/)

  50. says

  53. says

I would choose Emilie and the Hollow World because I just received the second book from First Reads. I feel terrible because I think it was supposed to be a trilogy. I hope all of the Strange Chemistry authors can find new publishing homes. πŸ™

  54. Moira says

This is disappointing as there are a few Strange Chemistry books that I was looking forward to reading. I would love to read The 57 Lives of Alex Wayfare, Stolen Songbird, or The Almost Girl. There are a few more that I am going to have to get now.

  57. says

Such sad, sad news. I loved Cassandra Rose Clark’s Assassin’s Curse series, and I desperately want to read Stolen Songbird after reading so many awesome reviews for it. I need to stock up, I guess. πŸ™

  58. Lori Hopkins says

Stolen Songbird sounds great…so sad to hear about the cancellation. What is wrong with publishers today? I would rather have a paper copy of a book any day of the week, no matter the cost!

Which book would you want to win? I am interested in reading both The Woken Gods and Blackwood!

  62. Joanna W. says

I recently discovered Strange Chemistry when I preordered Stolen Songbird. Like you, I absolutely adored that book and can’t wait for Hidden Huntress. On my ereader, I have The Fifty-Seven Lives of Alex Wayfare, but I haven’t had the chance to start it yet. If I was to win, I probably choose between Holders and Assassin’s Curse. I love fantasies, so they sound amazing to me. πŸ™‚

  63. says

I have yet to read a Strange Chemistry book, unfortunately! (Though I do have Lisa Ann O’Kane’s ESSENCE on my Kindle.) I think I’d go with STOLEN SONGBIRD since I’ve heard some pretty good things about it. It’s a total bummer about the Strange Chemistry news! But thanks for the giveaway!

  64. Kara says

No, I have not read a Strange Chemistry book, but I own Essence & I plan to crack into that as soon as I can. I am busy at the moment, but I can’t wait. I would like to win Stolen Songbird or The Assassin’s Curse.
