My 2015 Blog New Year’s Resolutions

2015

A new year is right around the corner and it’s customary to figure out our goals/plans for the new year-things we want to strive to accomplish and ways we want to improve. I typically don’t care much to make resolutions but this year I am. I feel like I have a lot IΒ want change in my personal life and in my bloggy life. It’s also a time to reflect on the past year and see if we met the challenges we set out for ourselves.

Review of 2014

Goodreads Reading Challenge:
I set myself a goal of 130 books for the Goodreads Reading Challenge. How did I do?

2014ReadingGoalWith about a week left in 2014 I think I’ll be making my goal.

Twitter:
As for my stats this year-I was so excited to read over 3k on Twitter! I didn’t think I’d ever get over that amount of followers so I was really excited when I did right around the time of my 2 year blog anniversary.

Endof2014twitterBloglovin:
I will have a personal party when I hit 3k and I’m close- just 100 more to go.

Bloglovin2014

Instagram:
I just joined Instagram and started posting a few months ago. I’ve fallen in love with it. I had no clue it was so much fun.

2014instagramI’m on Pintrest and Facebook but not a lot happened with them this year. I feel like Facebook is pretty worthless these days yet I still try to update it on occasion. My pageviews and such leveled out this year and stuck with a pretty typical average. I hope to raise it some this year but we’ll see.

Milestones and Post Popularity

I hit over 100k pageviews this last year and I hope 2015 can see my go over 200k. We shall see. As for my most popular posts…

I also did my first blog redesign which was way easier than I expected and a lot of fun.

2015 Goals and Resolutions

  • Not create a numeric reading goal for myself this year. I think I’ll skip the Goodreads challenge and focus on quality over quantity.
  • I really need to work on my ARC envy. This typically goes in waves for me but I wish I could banish it for good. There are SO many amazing books I already own that I need to read I shouldn’t always be focused on that next big thing.
  • I also want to purge myself of books I know I won’t reread or have duplicates of. I’ve already found about 30 books I want to get rid of so look for many giveaways this coming year.
  • I had this goal last year but I didn’t accomplish it- request less ARCs.
  • I want to be better at writing my review immediately after reading the book. I tend to take notes and then wait a good amount of time before I sit down and work on the review. I feel like I don’t write as informative reviews when I do it this way. Plus, I end up having about 5-7 I need to write. I don’t want that stress.
  • I want to work on more discussion posts
  • ACTUALLY get a Lego cover completed and posted! These take around 8 hours to do and my husband and I have not been making the time.

That’s it for me. I’d love to see your 2015 resolutions…link them in the comments if you have one posted.

Wow, jealous of those stats! πŸ™‚ Nice resolutions, I especially like the one about writing the review straight after reading the book that is definitely something I can relate to.
I’ll probably be posting mine next week and will definitely link back to them here.

I’m wishing you all the best on the personal front for 2015!!!
And of course all the very best for the blogging and reading! I agree with you in one of the goals/resultions, writing the review right after reading! I always procastinate at that!!

AND YES PLEASE!! MORE LEGO COVERS AND BLOCKS ON THE BLOG!!

    Happy Holidays Kristen!!

Yes, Pili. We will both have a much better year with our personal lives. It was a rough one wasn’t it? I’m not at all sad to kick 2014 to the curb.

I am really excited about this next year in blogging and especially READING. The 2015 books look so so good. I have about 20 different covers I want to do this next year and have pictures taken for about 3 ready to go. So hopefully we’ll make more than we did last year.

This is such a great idea! I’m doing well on the not requesting too much and the ARC envy and the purging — I live in an apartment and I have to constantly weed things out.
One of my 2015 goals is to get back on social media a little more. But I also think being a little less active on social media has made my ARC envy pretty nonexistent. So there you go. I also want to do more discussion posts. I meant to do that in 2014 and I didn’t do a great job of it.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Jen @ YA Romantics

The book piles keep growing and I’ve run out of room on my bookcases. There are so many that I know I’ll never read again so I should give them to someone who will. I’ve noticed you’ve not been on social media as much and you’ve been missed! I can see how that would help so much with the ARC envy though. I really need help in that area, haha.

  4. says

We have quite a few resolutions in common!! I need to get over ARC envy as well. I get the opportunity to read and review so many awesome advanced copies of books yet I always seem to be focusing on the ones I don’t have!! We’ll help each other get over that one πŸ˜‰ I really want to do more discussion posts too, they’re fun to writing and there’s lots to discuss!! It helps add variety to your posts too. I need to start writing reviews right after reading as well. Sometimes I let them pile up, and then I have 8 books I need to review!

    • says

I do the same thing Rachel! Why is it so easy to focus on what we don’t have rather than what we do? I really hope I can figure out how to control this arc envy. Keep me in line!! haha

  5. says

I haven’t made my resolutions yet, buuuut, I want to! I think I want to back off on ARCs too, this year, and focus on reading a few more books that I’m really excited about. Particularly older books. πŸ˜‰ And I want to catch up on series!! I always bomb out halfway through a series, and I never get to the mega-famous ones. I’ve only read one Rick Riordan book. *gasps* SO YES. I will be working on series in 2015.
Love your list!! And congrats on being soooo close to finishing your goals! I’m looking forward to more Lego covers next year!

    • says

I have so many older books sitting on my shelves that are sad and lonely. I need to give them the TLC they deserve. I’ve not read any of Rick Riordan’s books either!!

  6. says

Congrats on all of the achievements! 3,000 followers – WOOT. That’s awesome.
I am loving your lists of goals – I found myself agreeing with all them. I have bad ARC envy and I know I need to let that go. It’s hard not to get jealous when you see books you are desperate for out there! I also want to write more discussion posts and also write reviews on a more timely basis. Here’s to hoping we’ll both do well. πŸ™‚

    • says

I’ll have to lay off Twitter if I cant’ get over my arc envy.. It really gives me such a negative outlook–gotta work on that. It helps to know I’m not alone! Good luck to both of us on writing our reviews in a timely fashion!

  7. says

Looks like a great year – congrats on all the milestones! Nice goals too. I have a lot of the same goals for 2015, like writing reviews sooner and doing more discussions, so hopefully we’ll both manage to achieve that πŸ™‚ Merry Christmas and have a great new year!

    My 2014 Challenges Wrap Up

  8. says

Eeek. This post is all kinds of amazing Kristen. <3 Thank you so much for making and sharing πŸ™‚ Love the lego image! So cute. And omg. 3000 on twitter? SO JEALOUS, lol (A) I love having many followers, hih πŸ™‚ You are awesome. Hah, I need to request less ARCs next year too.. mostly I request/download tons, just to peek at them, and then it ends up with me not wanting to read them at all anymore :p Sigh. But hoping to read more ARCs next year. Fingers crossed πŸ™‚

    • says

I’ve really been trying to resist downloading e-arcs and I’ve been succeeding! It feels good to have a smaller review stack. maybe I’ll get time to read the hardcovers I’ve ignored!

  9. says

I hope you complete your goal, Kristen! And whoa, congrats with your awesome stats! I also joined Instagram some time this year and I’ve enjoyed it. πŸ˜‰

I definitely have to work on the ARC envy as well. Especially since I’m an INTL blogger and will have much less chances of receiving ARCs, plus my blog’s definitely not as huge as others. But I’ll deal with it somehow, hopefully! And YES to writing reviews after reading. I usually write mine days after reading the book, which really sucks since I’ll have forgotten a lot of stuff that happened. πŸ™

Good luck this 2015, girl! Happy holidays! <3

    • says

Instagram is so much more fun than I expected!

I’m so happy (so sorry) that I’m not alone in my arc envy! I always feel so awful about it. And I imagine being an INT blogger is very difficult concerning that. And all the giveaways that aren’t INT πŸ™

Good luck to you in 2015!!

  10. says

I’m working on my resolutions right now, actually, and we’ve both got in common the reviewing right when you finish the book! I have about 10 books in queue for review and I keep procrastinating! Next year I hope to be more disciplined with this πŸ™‚

  11. says

YES NO NUMERIC GOAL! YOU GO GIRL WOOHOOO I’m just going to set something random on GR but generally go with the flow. Numbers stressed me out this year and goal setting has just about destroyed me. I’m just going to go wherever the rhythm takes me hahaha

AND CONGRATS ON ALL YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS, KRISTEN! <3 Have a smashing 2015 πŸ˜€

    • says

I might do the same for GR because it is an easy way to keep track of what you’ve read. I’m so happy nad feel so free to release myself from the numeric pressure!! GO US

  12. says

Yay for almost reachign the 30K on twitter. I am not on Instagram, but I love Pinterest. I love pinning new ideas for recipes I want to make.

I will be participating in the goodreas challenge if only to keep track of how many books I read, but I’ll be setting a low goal of about one book a week so I can keep up.

My goal for this year is accepting less books with deadlines as they stress me out. Great post and I hope the next year is even better!

    • says

      oooh boy I’d love 30k πŸ˜›

I have barely played with Pinterest but I should have made that a goal to actually use it! I’ve loved Instagram so much I should branch out a tiny bit.

I do love that the GR challenge keeps up with the books so well. I might make a goal of like 50 books just for the convenience. Yes to no stress!! Or at least LESS stress..

  13. says

Quality over quantity is an interesting New Years Resolution. How do you think you will determine the quality of a book going in to it? Or do you think you will only be able to determine that after you’ve finished reading a book? Will this influence the books your buy or request on Netgalley (or whatever the source is that ARCs are requested)? Sorry for the millions of questions! This resolution just seems so unique to me πŸ™‚

    • says

Great questions Jackie! I guess for me the ‘quality’ books are authors I’ve read that I love or books that really grab me rather than requesting things that I just have a mild interest in. Example…knowing I’m not big into contemporary but requesting one anyway because my friends say the author is really great. So now I have this contemp sitting on my shelf that I’m like meh about. I shouldn’t have requested that one. Granted, I might love it but I could have waited and borrowed it, gotten from the library or purchased a copy. So it’s really not the book’s quality I’m referring to but my likely hood of wanting to actually read it when the time comes to.

  14. says

I think quality is definitely more important than quantity. I’m really hoping to finish up or even just READ more series this 2015. There are a lot of books i want to read that I just never got too, and now there are three or so books and I can finally just read them all back-to-back.

If you want to do more discussion posts, I’m hosting a giveaway on my blog if you bloggers do one of two posts (top right hand side of my blog has a link – the Book Depository prize one).

I have many, many final books of a series that are sitting on my shelf not being read. I really need to reread the series and finish them. I hope to take control of my time better.

  15. says

Wow, congratulations on the wonderful milestones you touched on this year! πŸ˜€ 3k followers is nothing to sneeze at – great job. I’m considering ditching the Goodreads challenge next year as well, but I’m kind of torn – on one hand, it is slightly stressful, but on the other, it’s a great motivator to get me to read more. I don’t know, maybe I’ll just lower it so that I can focus on quality over quantity like you are?

Also: I totally feel you on the ARC envy. The worst part is, sometimes I request WAY too many ARCs and then I end up working overtime to try and read them all before the release date. Oh, the struggles. πŸ˜›

    • says

I completely relate Topaz…I am so afraid to miss that next great ARC that I’ll request stuff that just mildly looks interesting and then have a pile. When you get too many it just causes stress…there’s no point in it. If I could get some patience and just request the ones it MUST have then I can wait, read reviews, and purchase the books I miss. Sounds like a plan, haha. And thank you! I was so happy to get over 3k twitter followers πŸ™‚

  16. says

3.000 followers, that’s crazy πŸ˜€ Congratulations on that! And I bet you already met your Goodreads goal, so good job. I also started to appreciate Instagram this year and now I’m kind of addicted to it. I think we all have moments of a bit of ARC envy. I do notice I’m better at it now than at the beginning πŸ™‚ Great resolutions and good luck!

  17. says

Some of my resolutions are the opposite of yours. I’ve made a habit of getting rid of books for years and I want to start collecting, and I’ve been so hesitant about requesting physical ARCs that…well, I haven’t. If only there were a way for us to switch impulses a bit!

  18. says

Kristen, I’ve said it before, you’ve denied it before, but seem so organized! I’m still thinking through my goals for 2015 (big shocker). One change is I’ll be writing more for myself this year.

  19. says

With your photography hobby I’m so surprised you hadn’t started Instagram sooner, it’s such fun πŸ˜€ I’m excited to see your next lego cover art. It’s completely understandable that you stop doing them sometimes given that time commitment, wow! But it’s fun you can do them your hubby, bonding time πŸ˜€
