Stacking the Shelves

I hope everyone is having a great summer so far! We are-just enjoying the insane heat of Texas and really trying to avoid it as much as possible. I don’t know about you but I’m swimming (haha) in summer releases. So far there’ve been some incredible ones.

One bit of sadness this week was the news that Angry Robot is shutting down their YA imprint, Strange Chemistry. I took this time to look at their catalog and pick out my wish-list and purchase some books. I’m not clear on what this news means for these authors or their books but I want to make sure I have some for my collection. I’ve also got an international giveaway going right now-winner chooses any SC book they want. You can check it out here.

Now to this week’s books. Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga’s Reviews is a weekly meme where you show what books you’ve purchased, gotten from the library, received from giveaway, as gifts or for review.

For Review (via publisher):

 MortalHearttheVanishingSeasonFCWorldofTrouble

Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers, The Vanishing Season by Jodi Lynne Anderson and World of Trouble by Ben H. Winters

I have read The Vanishing Season and again (after Tiger Lily) was impressed with Anderson’s writing style and how incredibly vivid and beautiful it is. I’ll go into detail about this and the things I wasn’t as keen on in my review. World of Trouble is the third in Winter’s series. I reviewed the firs- The Last Policeman last week. And…MORTAL HEART. I nearly passed out opening that package. I can not believe that the physical arc is in my house. I’ve been hugging it and am so grateful.

For Review (via NetGalley):

The Fire Wish (The Jinni Wars, #1)
The Fire Wish by Amber Lough

I don’t know much about this one but I love that cover and summary.

Amazing haul this week. Mortal Heart is everywhere at the moment, it’s making me super tempted to try that series for myself. I hope you have a great reading week and enjoy all of your new additions 🙂 Here’s my STS.

I hope you’ll enjoy World of Trouble (I gotta go check out your review for The Last Policeman!) I really liked it and must say this has been a very surprisingly little trilogy of books. The ending is definitely worth it!

I loved the first and will be starting Countdown City soon. Very surprising series! Happy to hear you enjoyed them too 🙂 I have no clue where the story is going-always fun

I have heard some amazing things about the His Fair Assassins series. I am glad you got an ARC of it since it seems to be one of your faves! 🙂 I hope you enjoy it and the rest of the books you have got this week! 🙂

Thanks for sharing and have a great week! 🙂 xxx

It is one of my faves 🙂 I didn’t think there was any chance at all for me to ever have the physical arc so it was a beautiful moment for me. haha. Thank you Alex!

Yes to His Fair Assassin…so good. As for Tiger Lily…Anderson’s writing is beautiful but I was sort of a black sheep and didn’t love it. I hope you do though.

Ack! SO JEALOUS of the heat you have. Sniffs. We have rain and 7C at the moment 🙁 Freeeeeezing, lol. I want summer too. Grrr. Hope you enjoy it 😀 ANYWAY. Mortal Heart! YESSS. Hope you love it. <3 I also have The Vanishing Season; you know, the UK edition, hih 🙂 Happy reading Kristen. <3

Here it is so humid that you walk out and feel all sweaty in no time at all. The heat would be better if it weren’t so humid. I saw your thoughts on TVS on twitter and I’ll be very interested to read your review.

The Vanishing Season has a beautiful cover. The Fire Wish looks like a lot of fun and Mortal Heart looks amazing.
I was sad to hear about the end of Strange Chemistry as well, hopefully the authors’ work will be picked up elsewhere.

I am glad you enjoyed The Vanishing Season. I have an eARC of it and cannot wait to read it. I also got World of Trouble this week and have it coming up for review soon. I hope the trilogy wraps up well! I have no idea how they are going to end it!

The writing for TVS is impressive of course it being Jodi Lynn. I hope you enjoy it…I did have some meh feelings about it. Curious to hear what you think.

I have no clue about how World of Trouble will end either. Such a unique series!

The weather is horrible here 🙁 Summer has started, but it looks like Fall. Damn Netherlands. I’m also very sad about the Strange Chemistry news. They had some great books and I hope to get some others before they are unavailable.

Mortal heart! Ahhh. I can’t wait to read that book. The vanishing season sounds great too and I loved Tiger Lily. Happy reading 😀

We are so sticky humid here it makes the heat intolerable. I hope we all get some nicer weather soon! I’m sad about SC too. I hope the authors find new homes fast. That has to be so horrible.

  8. says

YESSSS!! MORTAL HEART!! GIVE IT A HUG FROM ME TOO!! =D
Summer heat has arrived here too! Not in full force yet, but I don’t think it’ll be long!
I’m very sad about the Strange Chemistry news too… that imprint always had very fresh and unique books that were a joy to read! I’ve also got the paperback from some of the books I had love but only had ARCs or Kindle versions of… It’s bad news for the team working on SC cause now they’re redundant and without a job, and authors have their books without a publisher again… =(
I cannot wait to read your review for The Vanishing Season!

*hugs MH for Pili* I totally agree about SC having fresh and unique books. I am sad to see they felt they had no reason to keep it going. Such a bummer.

    • says

I’ll never get used to TVS having a different title in the UK. Different cover is typical but I wonder about the different title. What’s up with that?

  9. says

I’m so happy that you got Mortal Heart! I’ve seen tons of bloggers freaking out about getting it. I’ve only read Grave Mercy but I absolutely LOVED it. I really need to hurry up and read Dark Triumph so I can read this one when it comes out! Great haul this week – happy reading! 🙂

    • says

I had sent in a request a while back so either from that or by lottery that I wasn’t aware I had entered. Regardless I’m pumped! So sad about SC 🙁

  10. says

I saw the news about Strange Chemistry and did the same thing- bought a few of their titles I was interested in while they’re still available. 🙂

  11. says

Wooohooooo! Congrats on getting Mortal Heart 😀 That’s so awesome hun!

Yey, I got Fire Wish too, want to read it together??

  12. says

Two words….MORTAL HEART! Every time I see that gorgeous cover I fangirl a little to myself! I CANNOT wait to get my hands on this book!

    • says

Yes, me too! The cover is so beautiful. I love the colors and everything about it. So lovely. I can’t wait to read it. trying to wrap up the books releasing in July and then I will!

  13. says

Oh, and ARC of Mortal Heart…LUCKY! I have an eARC, but I’m afraid it’s going to expire before I get to it. 🙁 I haven’t heard of The Fire Wish. Going to have to check that one out. Enjoy all your new reads!
