Stacking the Shelves

This week felt like a slow bookish week though I got some amazing mail. I posted a tiny bit more on the blog this last week and hoping I’ll do much more in the coming weeks. It’s summer vacation here at my house and yet I feel more busy than during the school year. I’m loving having my kiddo home all week though.

Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga’s Reviews is a weekly meme where you show what books you’ve purchased, gotten from the library, received from giveaway, as gifts or for review.

I already read A Book of Spirits and Thieves and really enjoyed it. I don’t know about you but I’ve heard some amazing things about Uprooted. I had to start it and I am loving it so far. Everything is hitting me right. The Gathering Dark is the UK version of Shadow and Bone before they switched the cover and title. I absolutely adore this cover and title and wish they’d kept with it. Would it cause confusion? Most likely the book is so pretty. I’ve got to post another picture so you can see that the printing is shiny…

I really love shiny letters and this book is just so beautiful. I really want to reread Bardugo’s series so I think when I do it’ll be this version I read.

I don’t know if you’ve been participating in the #booksfortrade tag on Twitter but I have had the best time. I’ve met some really amazing bloggers and exchanged for some books that I never dreamed of owning. Case in point…

I love Robin LaFevers’ books so much and I never dreamed I’d own this arc. I am still hunting for Dark Triumph. If I ever find it then my collection will be complete.

    That’s a lovely haul Kristen!
The Gathering Dark looks good, but I think I prefer the current cover of Shadow and Bone. It’s perfect!
Have you started reading Cruel Beauty? I bought the book few days ago, and I can’t wait to read it myself!:)

I read Cruel Beauty last year but never added it to my collection. I really would like to reread it though since it’s been a while. Isn’t the UK Shadow and Bone the purple version?

Awesome haul of books this week. I see that you got some interesting books. I really like the Shadow and Bone UK cover. It’s very shiny and beautiful indeed. Great stack of books this week.

I recently read Delicate Monsters and it was WILD. I don’t even have words to describe that book, you just have to read it (though maybe bring a barf bag because it gets MESSED UP.)

I don’t know if you’ve read Cruel Beauty or not yet, but it was one of my favorites of 2014 and one of my ALL-TIME fairytale retellings.

I can’t wait to read Uprooted, but I’m waiting a little bit for the hype around it to die down. I don’t want to be influenced in any way when I finally read it, though it looks AMAZING and BOTH covers for it are absolutely stunning. The question is: which one do I buy?

OMG! That Shadow and Bone version!!!! I don’t have enough space/time/money to collect books but I love watching these other editions/original ARCs pop up – I am living vicariously through you traders 🙂 Booksfortrade has definitely been a bit of a godsend! Enjoy your new books! 🙂

Life is inevitably more busy with kids underfoot, but kids make life entertaining, so it’s nice when they’re home, isn’t it? Glad you still find time to blog! Oooh I love a shiny, glossy cover – or just a pretty book that catches the eye. Hope you enjoy all your mail goodies! I’m curious about Cruel beauty! 😀

Great haul this week! I’m really curious about Delicate Monsters, it sounds really good but I’ve been seeing a few mixed reviews so I look forward to hearing your thoughts 😀

That is quite a pretty edition of Shadow And Bone. Funniness though, I actually got SO CONFUSED because of that title! I got really excited about getting this review book because it was called “The Gathering Dark” and I thought it was Leigh Bardugo’s and…gah. It wasn’t. There’s another one and it’s a pretty hopeless book. >.> So I’m glad they did change it. xD I’m still waiting on reading Ruin and Rising but ajfdklsa I love her world building.

I’m soooo looking forward to Delicate Monsters. I’m hoping it’s good! I’ve heard good and bad things, but nothing that can dissuade me from that book!

Oh boy, I’m so excited you got the Grave Mercy arc! Such a collector’s item. 😉

  9. says

I’ve never seen an actual ARC of Grave Mercy – cool! Glad you were able to get it, and I hope you can find Dark Triumph.
Uprooted is on my Kindle and waiting for me. I hope to read it soon. Everyone seems to love it!
    Happy reading, Kristen!

The Gathering Dark is SO pretty! Too bad that version isn’t in stock anymore at Waterstones here. And more stuff on my TBR 😉

The Gathering Dark looks so pretty, but I think I like the Shadow and Bone US cover a bit better. I still haven’t read Cruel Beauty yet, but heard a lot of good things about the book. Nice haul this week.

    1. I’ve seen such fabulous things about Uprooted – hope it lives up to expectations!

    2. I always get confused when publishers change the name of a book for different locations – is it just a marketing thing, or what?

  14. says

I want Uprooted so much! I’ve been doing so good at being restrained, though… I mean, look at last week’s haul! Tiny! So I’m considering waiting until I’m actually ready to read it.

But on the other hand, there’s still three blank spots on my TBR for this month…

You’ve got a lot of great reads here it seems! Some that I see but would also love to try at some point would be Uprooted, Delicate Monsters and Grave Mercy! So I hope you enjoy them all ^^
