My October TBR Pile

Hip, hip hooray for October! I’m always eager for this time of year and this year is no different-especially with Gilmore Girls on Netflix! Who’s not enjoying that? My plans for Tuesday when Brennan is in school? Watching a marathon! I’m super excited. This show broke my heart in so many ways but it’s also just so perfect.

I’ve gathered up the books that I hope to be able to read this month. I’m pretty excited about my pile since it includes some of my most anticipated books for this year *cough, Mortal Heart, Cough*

Would you like to see?

Pretty pile of books isn’t it? I’m more than half way into  Stitching Snow and enjoying it though it hasn’t blown me away. My expectations had been lowered significantly with all the poor reviews I’ve been seeing. It’s really not that bad but it hasn’t presented any new material I’ve not seen before. It’s worth the read. Last night I felt the urge to start This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner. It’s wonderful! I’ve actually finished it after staying up rather late to read it. Once I started I didn’t want to stop.

Other things that you can expect this month…

  • Blog Tour- Bitter Greens by Kate Forsyth, Review and Giveaway October 8th
  • Thrills and Chill Tour- hosted by The Midnight Garden. Guest Post by Jonathan Stroud and Giveaway October 13th

And the big question…will I be able to FINALLY share the Heir of Fire Lego Cover Art? That is to be seen. I’ve been so busy in my RL I’ve had no time to even take the photographs yet. I meant to this last weekend but I forgot.

Stacking the Shelves

I hope everyone is having a great summer so far! We are-just enjoying the insane heat of Texas and really trying to avoid it as much as possible. I don’t know about you but I’m swimming (haha) in summer releases. So far there’ve been some incredible ones.

One bit of sadness this week was the news that Angry Robot is shutting down their YA imprint, Strange Chemistry. I took this time to look at their catalog and pick out my wish-list and purchase some books. I’m not clear on what this news means for these authors or their books but I want to make sure I have some for my collection. I’ve also got an international giveaway going right now-winner chooses any SC book they want. You can check it out here.

Now to this week’s books. Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga’s Reviews is a weekly meme where you show what books you’ve purchased, gotten from the library, received from giveaway, as gifts or for review.

For Review (via publisher):

Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers, The Vanishing Season by Jodi Lynne Anderson and World of Trouble by Ben H. Winters

I have read The Vanishing Season and again (after Tiger Lily) was impressed with Anderson’s writing style and how incredibly vivid and beautiful it is. I’ll go into detail about this and the things I wasn’t as keen on in my review. World of Trouble is the third in Winter’s series. I reviewed the firs- The Last Policeman last week. And…MORTAL HEART. I nearly passed out opening that package. I can not believe that the physical arc is in my house. I’ve been hugging it and am so grateful.

For Review (via NetGalley):

The Fire Wish (The Jinni Wars, #1)
The Fire Wish by Amber Lough

I don’t know much about this one but I love that cover and summary.

This week I acquired some of my most wanted books for the year!

For Review (via publisher):

Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater

I already read this one-it was an incredibly addicting read. My review should go up next week.

For Review (via Edelweiss):

Mortal Heart (His Fair Assassin, #3)

Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers

I have been desperate to read this one and so when I got the email that I had access on Edelweiss I might have squealed a bit.

Gifted (Thank you Jon from Scott Reads It):

This Shattered World by Meagan Spooner and Amie Kaufman, Jackaby by Will Ritter and The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black

I am so thankful to my wonderful bloggy friends. I had several people offer to send Jackaby from seeing my desperate need for this book on Twitter. You reading folks are truly the best. I’ve never loved a community so much. And Jon–thank you so much for grabbing these for me at BEA.

Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo

EXCITEMENT. I started this last night after  my husband went out to get me a copy because I was sick. Sweetest husband in the world.

I have to fangirl a bit because Fierce Reads posted our Lego cover to their tumblr! Mary Pearson will also be adding it to her page dedicated to fan art. So honored for them to include our Lego artwork

If I Were Going to BEA- The Books I’d Want

This post is inspired by Jenna from Jenna Does Books post BEA 2014 My Most Anticipated Titles

Because I’m a glutton for punishment I’ve been perusing the galley drop lists and day-dreaming what it would be like to join the amazing bloggers headed to BEA later this month. I can’t imagine the excitement, stress and nerves associated with going. I can’t wait to hear all the stories and see the pictures.

In my day-dreaming I’ve obviously created my wish-list so figured I’d share it. Not in order of desire.

Jackaby by William Ritter, Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers, Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas, The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black, The Jewel by Amy Ewing, The Fire Artist by Daisy Whitney, Vault of Dreamers by Caragh M O’Brien, The Walled City by Ryan Graudin, Trial by Fire by Josephine Angelini, Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater and The Iron Trial by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

I’m probably forgetting some other epic books but these are the ones that I’ve taken the most notice of. Jackaby is my latest obsession. I was approved on Edelweiss but I’d scramble to get that beautiful ARC; I would love to pet the cover. I also have a digital copy of Trial by Fire but once again I’d love to have the physical ARC  for the cover. I would also have Talon by Julie Kagawa on the list but the wonderful Meredith from Pandara Books gifted me a copy.

Related sort of– our latest LEGO cover was of Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers. I was thrilled and honored that she shared our Lego cover on her website! If you’ve not visited her site and blog then you really must.

Are you headed to BEA? If so what book is your most anticipated? If you’re like me and not going do you still look at the information and daydream?
