Today’s topic is book to movie adaptations. There aren’t many in the works that I’m overly excited about (or know about really) so I’m going to add in the books that have been optioned or in development. You must check out Novel Heartbeat’s post about upcoming releases and optioned films.
Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a different question is posed and gives us bloggers an opportunity to share our top tens on all different types of bookish topics.
In Development or Set to Release
The Fifth Wave By Rick Yancey
The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
Optioned (AKA- Please Announce More News!)
Angelfall by Susan Ee
Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake
The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater
Shadow & Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Throne of Glass (for TV I believe?) by Sarah J. Maas
The idea of ANY of these coming to film or television overwhelms me with excitement and worry. What if they don’t do it right? I would rather no adaptation than a poorly done one. But, the idea of a well made version of my favorite books makes me feel so excited. Seriously, I can’t even fathom the casting though–who could ever play The Darkling? Raffe?
Yesssss The Raven Boys!
I didn’t know most of these had been optioned. Though I am THRILLED about a Daughter of Smoke and Bone movie. (Also ANGELFALL!)
You really got me excited about the optioned! I’d love to see “Daughter of Smoke and Bone”, “The Raven Boys” or “Shadow & Bone” on screen, but I’m scared they’d mess it up. So I understand your worries… And I have to check your recommended post on thet topic, I didn’t even know there are so many books made into/ optioned to be made into films. And just a few weeks ago I heard “The Name of the Wind” by Patrick Rothfuss will be a film and series. I loved the books…
The Fifth Wave all the time!!!
I’d really like to see the book to film adaptation of Fahrenheit 451. The 1966 version is a class but with today’s special effects and level of movie majic, I’m sure, I hope, that the film will show the full context of the book. Do the book justice. It was one of the reasons it took me so long to watch The Giver but glad I did. As for movie or TV, I prefer movie because TV shows go on for seasons. Which means a lot of storylines, out of canon, will be made to carry the show. And whether that works is 50-50.
I think I’m looking forward to The 5th Wave? Ha… I’m worried they’ll leave out my favorite aspects of the book, the psychological aspects, but maybe not. I am excited Liev Schrieber is in it. As long as they don’t focus too much on the romance.
I would be very intrigued to see the Grisha books as movies!
I like the idea of developing story ideas further with TV, but I would want them to make it clear it’s a mini series that will only last X amount of time and that they are sticking with the source pretty closely. I don’t want them drawing things out way too much and adding stuff in there just to make it longer.
Great list! There are definitely certain books I’d rather see as a tv show than a movie, but as long as they are done well I won’t complain. I’m so excited for so many that are hopefully coming soon! All of these on your list for sure! I still need to read The Forest of Hands & Teeth!
OOoh nice! YES The 5th Wave! So can’t wait for that one! I forget all the optioned ones…like which books are currently being optioned and such. Anna Dressed in Blood is definitely one I would love to see…maybe during the daylight hours though! 😉
Here’s my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
Ooh, I had no idea some of those were optioned. That’d be cool.
Great list! I hadn’t known that some of these books had been optioned as movies! That’s exciting. I’m with you though, I would rather have no movie than a poorly done adaptation of one of my favorite books.
I haven’t read the fifth wave but I need to because one of my favourite actresses is starring in it as well! I also really like the sound of Cinder being a movie. I could definitely dig that.
My recent review: http://olivia-savannah.blogspot.nl/2015/11/lumiere-review-tour.html
I would love for someone to actually make The Raven Boys, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and Angelfall! As long as they did them right, especially the casting!
I haven’t read The 5th Wave, but the movie does look good!
Yay 😀 Awesome list Kristen. <3 I hope you will love all of these movies when they come out. I'm also excited about The 5th Wave 🙂 And I neeeeed The Raven Boys and Shadow and Bone. <3 (Also The Scorpio Races. <3) NEED IT 😀 Gorgeous post, as always, sweet girl 🙂
Hmmm, I really need to read The Forest of Hands & Teeth before the movie comes out!
And yeah, any series of books I’ve loved optioned for TV or movies is both exciting and scary because what if they mess it up???
WAIT THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH IS IN DEVELOPMENT? HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS? I Just read this book not too long ago, and I really liked it. I’m excited now! And I definitely want to see The 5th Wave as well, but I still need to read the book. And omg I am STOKED for all of the ones that have been optioned and I NEED MORE ANNOUNCEMENTS REGARDING THEM ASAP. But casting has to be perfect. SO perfect.
I had only heard about Sabaa’s book being optioned- so cool about the others! I am also VERY excited about The 5th Wave and I’ve heard Rick Yancey talk about it a lot and he’s really pleased with what they’ve done 🙂
Daughter of Smoke and Bone was a very interesting book for me and I am looking forward to a adaptation. Hope it will be as good as the book itself!
Excellent list! I ‘dn’t understood that some of these publications had been optioned as pictures! That’s interesting. Though, I ‘d preferably have no movie than the usual badly done version of one of my favourite novels I’m with you.
