Waiting on Wednesday #12

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases we are highly anticipating. This week’s pre-publication “can’t-wait to-read” selection is: Avalon by Mindee Arnett.

AvalonSummary (via Goodreads):
A ragtag group of teenage mercenaries who crew the spaceship Avalon stumble upon a conspiracy that could threaten the entire galaxy in this fascinating and fast-paced sci-fi adventure from author Mindee Arnett.

Of the various star systems that make up the Confederation, most lie thousands of light-years from First Earth-and out here, no one is free. The agencies that govern the Confederation are as corrupt as the crime bosses who patrol it, and power is held by anyone with enough greed and ruthlessness to claim it. That power is derived from one thing: metatech, the devices that allow people to travel great distances faster than the speed of light.

Jeth Seagrave and his crew of teenage mercenaries have survived in this world by stealing unsecured metatech, and they’re damn good at it. Jeth doesn’t care about the politics or the law; all he cares about is earning enough money to buy back his parents’ ship, Avalon, from his crime-boss employer and getting himself and his sister, Lizzie, the heck out of Dodge. But when Jeth finds himself in possession of information that both the crime bosses and the government are willing to kill for, he is going to have to ask himself how far he’ll go to get the freedom he’s wanted for so long.

Why Am I Eager for Avalon?
I love sci-fi and anything that has been said to be a match for fans of Firefly automatically gets my interest. The description makes it seem like a real page turnerย and that cover looks intense. I need this book now!

I’ve never actually seen Firefly, but I still really like the sound of this book. It definitely looks like my sort of thing! I did had some mixed feelings about Mindee Arnett’s The Nightmare Affair though, so I’ll probably wait for some reviews to be posted before deciding to pick this up. But I’m hoping it will be as good as it sounds. ๐Ÿ™‚ Great pick, Kristen!

Oh Sam, you must watch Firefly!! I love a good sci-fi especially if it has a rag-tag group banding together. Always so much fun. Reminds me of the old animes Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star.

I’ve never seen Firefly, but I really want to! I watched an episode of Buffy, but it wasn’t really my thing, The effects were terrible, and it was kind of cheesy. I am thinking of watching more, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it! Wow. That turned into a rant! Anyway I have Avalon & I hope it’s super awesome! I hope you get approved soon, have a happy Wednesday!

hahaha, Buffy is a lot different than Firefly–both I loved but, yea the effects were pretty bad. Did you ever see the movie Serenity? I want you to start Avalon soon and let me know how it is!

I agree about The Nightmare Affair…I enjoyed it but it was lacking something. I think this one is going to be darker and for an older audience. fingers crossed it’s amazing. ๐Ÿ™‚

I was totally and completely sold when I read that Firefly fans would like it! I absolutely LOVE that show, so something that will read somewhat like it is a must in my book, and I love reading science fiction!

I was super lucky to win a preorder on Sam’s blog and went for this one! =D
