Blog Tour- Their Fractured Light Review + Giveaway

I have been a long time fan of this series of companion novels from the moment I read an advanced copy of These Broken Stars. I was blown away with the skill Amie and Meagan had in creating compelling, complex characters and how well they worked together. When I had the chance to be part of the tour for Their Fractured Light I jumped on it. I’m honored to again be highlighting these books and really suggest you read them if you’ve not already!

theirfracturedlightA year ago, Flynn Cormac and Jubilee Chase made the now infamous Avon Broadcast, calling on the galaxy to witness for their planet, and protect them from destruction. Some say Flynn’s a madman, others whisper about conspiracies. Nobody knows the truth. A year before that, Tarver Merendsen and Lilac LaRoux were rescued from a terrible shipwreck—now, they live a public life in front of the cameras, and a secret life away from the world’s gaze.

Now, in the center of the universe on the planet of Corinth, all four are about to collide with two new players, who will bring the fight against LaRoux Industries to a head. Gideon Marchant is an eighteen-year-old computer hacker—a whiz kid and an urban warrior. He’ll climb, abseil and worm his way past the best security measures to pull off onsite hacks that others don’t dare touch.

Sofia Quinn has a killer smile, and by the time you’re done noticing it, she’s got you offering up your wallet, your car, and anything else she desires. She holds LaRoux Industries responsible for the mysterious death of her father and is out for revenge at any cost.

When a LaRoux Industries security breach interrupts Gideon and Sofia’s separate attempts to infiltrate their headquarters, they’re forced to work together to escape. Each of them has their own reason for wanting to take down LaRoux Industries, and neither trusts the other. But working together might be the best chance they have to expose the secrets LRI is so desperate to hide.

My Review

I really loved the first two books in this series of companion novels so my expectations for this final installment were very high. I hoped it would tie in the characters from the prior two books as well as wrap things up in the world especially concerning LaRoux Industries. I was incredibly impressed with how this was accomplished and felt that Their Fractured Light was a wonderful addition and conclusion.

In Their Fractured Light the story focused on Gideon and Sofia, two characters with many secrets to hide and regrets/guilt to wrestle with. As with all of these books Amie and Meagan created characters that were incredibly realistic and had amazing chemistry together. Gideon was a really believable hacker (you know you read those books and you just don’t buy the person is what they are supposed to be? Not so in this book!) Not only was Gideon a complex character but his dialog was so witty and clever. I adored his snark and I couldn’t help but crush on him throughout the book.

Sofia was an incredible foil for Gideon’s character- she handled stress and life in general with a serious attitude. She was one scrappy character that was hard not to admire for her tenacious spirit. As you can imagine these two mixed up together was a lot of fun to read and I loved how these two characters had so many secrets and mysteries surrounding their pasts.

Another thing I really loved about this book was how well the authors tied in the new character’s story lines to the past characters. Little hints were given all through the first books about these two so if you were to go back and reread I’m sure you’d notice their presence or at least mentions of them.

Fans of the characters from the prior two books will be enthused to learn that they all make an appearance in Their Fractured Light. And, it’s not a small part they play either! They have an active role in the story line which I thought was a nice touch. I will admit that I was really excited to see these familiar characters I did have a bit of a disconnect with them. I felt closer to Sofia and Gideon’s story but only because it has been far too long since I read the first two books. I think this time caused me to lose some of the momentum between the characters. This also resulted in the pacing slowing down a bit for me once all the characters joined the fray. The slower pace didn’t last too long though and things got tense again and I genuinely worried for the character’s welfare.

Final thoughts:

Once again I’m incredibly impressed with the scope of story and the complexity of the characters these authors have created. I’m so sad to see this world and characters come to a close. But, this book left me completely satisfied with the outcome so now I’ll sit back and look forward to what both Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner have in the works- and I can hope they’ll team up again.

I just read These Broken Stars not too long ago. I cannot wait to get Their Fractured Light so I can binge read books two and three. Gideon has snark? Can I be in love with a fictional character I never met already? You’re not the first person I heard to say it slowed down when everyone got together. But I am still really looking forward to this book.
