Series Review- The Dispossessed by Page Morgan

The Beautiful and the Cursed Summary

After a bizarre accident, Ingrid Waverly is forced to leave London with her mother and younger sister, Gabby, trading a world full of fancy dresses and society events for the unfamiliar city of Paris.

In Paris there are no grand balls or glittering parties, and, disturbingly, the house Ingrid’s twin brother, Grayson, found for them isn’t a house at all. It’s an abandoned abbey, its roof lined with stone gargoyles that could almost be mistaken for living, breathing creatures.

And Grayson has gone missing.

No one seems to know of his whereabouts but Luc, a devastatingly handsome servant at their new home.

Ingrid is sure her twin isn’t dead—she can feel it deep in her soul—but she knows he’s in grave danger. It will be up to her and Gabby to navigate the twisted path to Grayson, a path that will lead Ingrid on a discovery of dark secrets and otherworldly truths. And she’ll learn that once they are uncovered, they can never again be buried.

My Thoughts

I read the first two books of this series last year and was surprised by how beautifully done they were. I had heard great things and finally dove in for myself. I loved Morgan’s world because of the historical feel with the added bonus of living gargoyles. I loved the gothic atmosphere and hints of darkness. You can’t have shape-shifting gargoyles, demon hounds and fallen angels and not veer on the morbid at times.

Let’s stop for a second and focus on gargoyles. There is a drastic lack of gargoyle themed books though for me these creatures have always been a source of wonder and curiosity. Thank you Page Morgan for finally giving me a paranormal series focused on them.

Back to the books…All the characters were strongly portrayed and well developed. I was impressed with Ingrid’s growth and strength. The romances are also delightful (though-be warned- there was a touch of a love triangle). Though Ingrid’s attraction to a certain gargoyle (in his human form) was focused on the most I was most drawn to her sister, Gabby’s romance. I thought it was perfectly swoon-worthy and I love that Morgan was able to make even the side character’s romances so strong.

These novels were paced wonderfully with equal measures of action, tense scenes as well as swoons. I adored the character dialog and really everything about these books. Now that all three have released you have no excuse not to run out and read all three.

Overall, this series was an easy, romantic read with just a slight hint of gloom that really made it a unique young adult paranormal novel. I loved that Morgan also had demons, hellhounds and angels in the mix as well.

Go forth and read this series!

The UK Covers (for your viewing pleasure)

The covers look really trashy. I would have never paid attention to that series because of the horrible covers. Your review actually makes me rethink this, it sounds rather interesting.

Don’t you just love how ALL THE COVERS MATCH US AND UK VERSIONS INCLUDED. I was gifted The Beautiful and the Cursed about more than a year ago and I haven’t gotten around to it yet – looks amazing though! I’ll have to get to it sometime soon.

    Nice series review, lovely <33

I still need to properly dedicate time to read The Wondrous & The Wicked and I just cannot wait!! I adore the US covers the most, I confess! I still need to get the second book in HC though, once I get my book buying ban lifted I’ll complete the collection!
