Top Ten Tuesday- Top 5 Favorites and Top 5 Disappointments

I’m actually posting this week for TTT! Whoohoo. I’m going to highlight some of my favorite current reads and then some that disappointed me (and link my review if I’ve posted it).

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday Topic

The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski- This was the PERFECT conclusion to a series. It had everything I needed and yeah…just so well done.
Rebel of the Sands by Alywn Hamilton- You can read my review here. I loved the mix of genres and the world building. Such a fun book.
The Rose & the Dagger by Renee Adhieh- Renee is such a strong writer and this book was beautiful. So many quotable lines.
The Star Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi – Wow. Just wow. You can read my review here.
The Crown’s Game by: Evelyn Skye- I loved the world (another set in Russia….YAY) and the characters were divine. You can read why I loved this book here.

Ruined by Amy Tintera- I just DNFed this last night. I read half of the book and had zero connection to the story, characters or writing. I think the writing was a tad simplistic and it felt very much like a lot of other books I’ve read.
The Forbidden Orchid by Sharon Biggs Waller- I had really high expectations for this book since I’d heard so many great things about the author’s debut. But, sadly I didn’t love this book. I felt it missed some opportunities to be great. My review can be found here.
Reign of Shadows by Sophie Jordan- Nope. I couldn’t get into this one though I forced myself to finish it. I really liked how it started but the further I read the less I liked it. My review.
The Shadow Queen by CJ Redwine- Once again no connection to the plot or characters. And there were dragons and that still wasn’t enough to make me love it. You can read my review here.
The Killing Jar by Jennifer Bosworth- This was a DNF and pretty early on. Nothing about the writing grabbed me.

Sad to hear that about The Shadow Queen and Ruined, they both sound so good! But it’s hard for fantasy to stand out and feel worth it these days. I can’t wait to read Rebel of the Sands and catch up on the Winner’s series! I still need to read Crime.

Great top 5 favourites! I’m so excited to read The Winner’s Kiss and Rebel of the Sands! Oh I just got an arc of The Crown’s Game, glad to see it made your list!

That’s too bad about the Killing Jar, it definitely sounded interesting.

I’ve seen such mixed reviews on the ones that were your least favourite. Shame about The Shadow Queen–I was really looking forward to Redwine’s next series.

Glad the Winner’s Kiss was amazing! I can’t wait to finally read it!

Gorgeous post Kristen. <3 Gosh, I should have done a list like this one 😀 But thought it was just 10 5star reads, lol. And I have yet to read 10 books like that this year 🙁 sobs. But ohh, this was an awesome list post 😀 Thank you for sharing Kristen. <3 YAY for loving The Winner's Kiss 😀 I did too. <3 SO perfect. And ugh, Ruined was a bit disappointing, yeah :\ So sorry you had to DNF it. And aw, I'm still heartbroken that you did not like The Shadow Queen.. I loved it, hih.

I recently bought both Rebel of the Sands (it has SUCH a pretty cover in paperback, it glitters!) and The Wrath and the Dawn (it was a Kindle deal and I finally caved), so I’m looking forward to reading both. I’m happy to hear that The Rose and the Dagger is as good as the first part, I’m often afraid of the second book syndrome (if the story lags a bit in the middle of the series).
I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy the 5 books you listed – but I think you have to read crappy books sometimes in order to really appreciate the good! 🙂

Great post! I’m so glad to see that you liked The Winner’s Kiss! I loved the first two books in the trilogy, and I’m on the waiting list for The Winner’s Kiss at my library, hopefully it will arrive soon. I’m kind of sad that The Shadow Queen seems like a disappointing read, but I might give it a try anyway.

Loved Rebel of the Sands and can’t wait for The Crown’s Game, The Rose and The Dagger and The Star-Touched Queen (not too much of wait now yey!) What a shame about Ruin, it sounded like a great read.
