Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases we are highly anticipating. This week’s pre-publication “can’t-wait to-read” selection is: The Falconer by Elizabeth May.
Summary (via Goodreads):
Heiress. Debutant. Murderer. A new generation of heroines has arrived.
Edinburgh, Scotland, 1844
Lady Aileana Kameron, the only daughter of the Marquess of Douglas, was destined for a life carefully planned around Edinburgh’s social events – right up until a faery killed her mother.
Now it’s the 1844 winter season and Aileana slaughters faeries in secret, in between the endless round of parties, tea and balls. Armed with modified percussion pistols and explosives, she sheds her aristocratic facade every night to go hunting. She’s determined to track down the faery who murdered her mother, and to destroy any who prey on humans in the city’s many dark alleyways.
But the balance between high society and her private war is a delicate one, and as the fae infiltrate the ballroom and Aileana’s father returns home, she has decisions to make. How much is she willing to lose – and just how far will Aileana go for revenge?
Why am I waiting eagerly for The Falconer?
The main character slaughters fairies in secret? I am SO sold on this! I want to read this so badly but for now I couldn’t find any release dates for the US. I’ll just have to be jealous of anyone in the UK who will be able to read this one long before me.
I’m super excited for this one too! Dances, dresses and Fae assassin in secret, what’s not to love!!
All things I really love so totally works for me!
Awesome pick. I’m curious about this one too 🙂
Happy Wednesday!

Thanks Shane!
It’s due out in 2014 from Chronicle Books in the US, I think,. I really love the sound of this book! I should be receiving a copy soon actually. If you want to borrow it from me, I could probably get it out to you early-mid Oct. Let me know if you’re interested! 🙂
ooo, I will consider that! Thanks Sam <3 I might wait to see what you think of it first.
This book sounds awesome and amazing. I’ve been seeing the cover around a lot. I so want to read this book. Putting it on my wishlist.
My Wow Post
I can’t recall where I first saw the cover but since then I’ve been seeing it a lot too. Really eye catching 😉
I just saw this on GR in the last week or so, and I love the synopsis! Oh, and I hope you’re enjoying The Winner’s Curse.!

I LOVED The Winner’s Curse. This book looks excellent–hoping it is as awesome as the cover.
I want to read this one, too! I haven’t read a good faerie book in awhile. 🙂 GR shows that this is going to be released on May 6, 2014, from Chronicle Books. So far away! And I’m glad to hear that you’re enjoying The Winner’s Curse!
May 6th is entirely too far away. I keep waiting to hear your thoughts on World After 🙂
Um, this sounds fantastic. 🙂 Kickbutt Scottish girl on a revenge spree against faeries? Totally adding this to the TBR 🙂
Right? Love that summary!
Oh I’m really excited for this too! It does get confusing when you can’t tell whether it’s a US release date or a UK release date. I guess you could always buy it from the Book Depository instead of waiting! Great choice.
Here’s my WOW.
Yes, I wish they all had the same release date though I understand why they don’t.
I’ve been waiting on this one too. Should be good.
Fingers crossed it lives up to our expectations.
What?! Oh my gosh this looks SO COOL! Adding it to my TBR as we speak!
I love that cover! *swoons*
I like the cover for it 😀 Hope you’ll love it when you are able to read it. <3
